When you create a new collection, you don’t want to HOPE it’ll sell. You want to have a plan in place so that you are doing everything you can to help your launch to be successful. We help women to do this every day, having seen many of them launch their next product or service successfully. So, let’s get started and get you on that path, shall we?
Step One | Set Yourself Up for Success
When planning out launches, it’s imperative to know WHEN is a good time for you to do them, both from a personal and a business perspective. No matter how you look at it, all launches take time. Weeks, sometimes months, and the more organized you are and stick to your plans, the easier they will be as you do them more and more.
Think about when the busiest time is for your personal life, your business, and taking that into consideration, think about the BEST months to plan a launch for your business, to set yourself up well from the beginning.
Step Two | Make your Launches Matter
Why do launches matter? Well, simply put, when you put all of your time and energy and effort
into a product collection or a new service for your business, you don’t want to open the doors to crickets. You want people to be lined up at the digital door waiting for your new product or service to be available, because they are excited about what you’ve shown them so far.
Creating “hype” around a launch can be one of the best things you can do before a launch, and is guaranteed to help your launches get better and better as you grow your business.
Here are a few suggestions on ways to create hype around a launch:
Create a waiting list, offering subscriber-only details about the collection to connect with them more
Share photos of your products online, either fully designed products or sneak peeks and snippets
Develop a launch team with a few people who will help you to promote your products in the weeks ahead
Step Three | Create a Launch Plan
One of the main words I hear from creative entrepreneurs when it comes to launches is OVERWHELM. And, it’s easy to understand why. From social media to email to blog posts to pinterest to promotions, it can be a lot to consider, especially if you’re not certain how to set yourself up for success.
So, instead of trying to do #allthethings, chose a few that you want to do WELL, and grow from there.
Especially when it comes to your launch plans, would you rather do everything and do it all halfway and not in the best way to benefit you, or would you rather do just a few things and do them masterfully?
Here are a few things to consider when creating a launch plan:
Develop an email marketing plan
Create a content plan, giving people a call to action (something to do) with each item you share
Go live on social media to share more about your products before they’re available, remembering to give people a call to action at the close of each one
Step Four | How Branding Sets you Apart
When it comes to a product launch, you want your products and services to sell themselves for you with such a strong brand that people recognize it’s yours before you even say a word.
Your branding is MUCH more than your logo and color palette, and it can make all of the difference.
Develop a really strong brand, making sure to keep your brand focus at the forefront of it all. This happens AFTER you create your launch plan so that you know what you need to have on hand.
Here are a few questions to consider when branding your business:
What are the words you want your brand to represent?
What are the main colors or styles you’ll use consistently, in order to create brand recognition through your products?
Will you work with a photographer for a branding shoot, or find styled stock that pairs well with your brand?
Step Five | Time to Launch!
Now the fun begins. Are you ready?! You’ve done the work of planning things out, ordering samples, developing your branding, created your imagery, and so much more. Now, it’s time to actually LAUNCH your collection out into the world!
Launching / Step A: Choose a Date, commit to it, and announce it!
It’s really easy to make our own dates in our heads and not say them out loud. BUT, if you’ve put that date out there into the world, then it holds you accountable. If things need to change, then by all means, there’s no hard rule saying you can’t change a date later. But, having one set that you have as a goal is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
Launching / Step B: Where are you housing everything??
Where are you housing all of your launch plans? From promotional calendars to graphics, emails you’ll be sending to items you’ll be promoting each day, where is it’s “home”?
Whether you choose a digital calendar system like Trello or Asana, have an entire wall calendar covered with post-its, or you’ve written every detail with color coding into your physical planner, make sure to have ONE place to house it all, to keep things organized and not all over the place.
Launching / Step C: Launch!
With everything you’ve done to prepare, set your launch wheels in motion and launch your collection out into the world! Think slow and steady, taking each day at a time, doing your best, and knowing it’s going to be great.
Step Six | Reflect upon your Launch
After you’ve launched, it’s important to take time to reflect upon your launch, including both everything you did prior to your launch and during your launch in order to improve for the next time.
Taking time to reflect upon your launch when it’s still fresh in your mind will only help you to improve and get better for the next time.
There are a variety of questions you could ask yourself when thinking about your launch, but these are a few key questions to consider:
On a scale of 1-10, how happy are you with how pre-launch planning went?
What are three things you did really well for this launch?
What are three things you would like to improve for your next launch?
What is something that happened that you want to celebrate about this launch?
