We're thrilled to have Brittany here with us today sharing the lightbulb she had during her time at Stationery Academy and how she implemented it in her business!

Hello! I’m thrilled to be here guest posting as a Stationery Academy Alum! I’m Brittany A. Crain, owner and creative over at Colbie & Co. I am a photographer as well as a designer and combined my love of both trades to create unique stationery products. Currently I live in Atlanta, Georgia with my chef husband and two pups. We’re expecting our first child, a little boy, any day now! {I’m due January 3rd, ah!} Back in the day I attended a liberal arts college and studied photography and graphic design. While in the beautiful, original capital of Georgia, Milledgeville I fell in love with black & white photography, which inspired me to create my photography based line of stationery products.

Until attending Stationery Academy I was all over the place with my business, feeling like I could and needed to do anything and everything. Since attending I’ve focused my business on what I love to do and branding my company to evoke a specific feel. Throughout my growth in business I’ve learned exactly how important branding is.

Creating a cohesive look and feel allows your customers to understand your brand.

For Colbie & Co. my goal in keeping true to my style I wanted a neutral color based, upscale modern feel. I chose the marble background as a platform to shoot all of my products allowing all my product and promotional photography to be consistent to my brand. Sticking to a core color palette, textures, fonts and even Instagram filters helps to define your products and make them special to your company and style. How do you brand your company to keep it unique to you? If you need a jump start to defining your brand sit back and think about your style and what you want to portray to your customers.

I just recently rebranded and opened my online shop on my website. I have had an Etsy shop for a little over a year but chose to add a shop to my website as well. I wanted to create a cohesive upscale brand and felt that was the best to do outside the Etsy world. Etsy is a great starting point for the creative entrepreneur but I felt that it was time to move to a bigger better world of my own. I hope to grow my business into a full-time career and be a successful creative business owner and mom like so many of you are. All you mommas out there have any advice for this soon to be mom? How do you balance business and motherhood? I’m hoping to figure that out along my journey!

Although I feel like I’m still somewhat new to the entrepreneur/stationery business world and have a lot to learn, I’m getting there day by day. I’m determined to keep growing and dreaming in my creativity and business! Do you savvy business owners have any tips or tricks for me or others? Please share! I love to learn new things about this world!

If you are not sure whether to put in the investment in Stationery Academy I’m here to tell you it is so worth it! You’ll learn so much about business, creativity and yourself. All while gaining knowledge you never knew you needed to know and creating friendships/business connections along the way. Attending Stationery Academy in Nashville helped me find my brand!
