Personal growth is about understanding yourself and using those findings to develop a plan, clarify goals and reach your full potential. If we can understand ourselves better, we can understand our businesses better because we're uncovering the passions and "why" behind what we do. And knowing that "why" is how we differentiate ourselves in a crowded market.

Not only that, but personal growth increases self esteem and helps you deal with external events that can control our attitudes. If you are faced with a decision, using the things you've learned about yourself can help you navigate your future.

Below, we've listed some books that we like, have read and have found helpful in our journey at bettering ourselves. Do you have any books you'd like to suggest? We're always looking for the next one on our reading list.

Now Discover Your Strengths by Marcus Buckingham
This book is an alternative to Strengths Finder 2.0. It will also give you the code to take a personal assessment but also help you can managing your strengths and put them to work for you.

We recommend this book to everyone who attends Stationery Academy. It has been a big help to help our attendees fill in their Strengths and get them on their path toward discovering their passions and purpose. This book is a simple quiz that will identify your core strengths and talents, and capitalize on your strengths instead of "fixing" your shortcomings.

How the World Sees You: Discover Your Highest Value Through the Science of Fascination by Sally Hogshead

We all love the self-discovery of finding out more about ourselves, but have you thought about how others see you? What we love about this book (and quiz) is that it helps you find how you are valuable to others and how you can use that to become more successful by becoming more of who you are. The book also comes with a code for an online assessment to help you discover your Personality Archetype.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change by Stephen R. Covey

This book is most certainly on everyone's top 10 list. If you haven't read it, or it has been a while, pick up or download a copy. It will help you incorporate the "seven habits" into your life and put them into application through suggested actives.

The Passion Test: The Effortless Path to Discovering Your Destiny by Janet Bray Attwood
We have to admit, it's a little dated and can seem far-fetched, but it never hurts to write down your dreams and passions and use them to help shape your life into what matters most to you. Janet leads you through many stories that apply to discovering your passions and then gives a test to help you align your passions and life.

Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action by Simon Sinek
We love a good Simon Sinek book. Another thing we talk about at Stationery Academy is "your why". Why do you do what you do? Why is it important to you? It is so much more than just making things pretty. Start with Why will help you uncover and share the reason why you are in business.

The best part about Lean In is the practical advice Sheryl gives to help women overcome boundaries in life and business. She shares how we can be fulfilled personally and professionally through individual growth - and to bring the topic of "what women can't do and what women can" to the forefront of how we do life.
