Fall Creative Founders Conference Speaker: Heather O'Brien
Over the next few weeks, we’re going sharing about each of our Speakers individually and share more about what each of them will be speaking on for our Fall Creative Founders Conference. So far, we have introduced Valerie McKeehan of Lily & Val and Erin Kendrick of Erin is Creative. Today, we have Heather O'Brien of Heather O'Brien Design on the blog!
Heather attended the Creative Founders Conference (known then as Stationery Academy) in 2014 and it rocked her business world and truly propelled her business to the next level. She can’t wait to share all that she has learned over the years with you!
Heather is the owner and designer over at Heather O’Brien Design, a wedding stationery and branding business in Jacksonville, Florida. Heather is a wife and a mama to three girls (including a set of identical twins!), has over 12 years of design and branding experience and has been in the entrepreneur world for 8 years now. She is so excited to be sharing with you how to create and maintain your perfect workflow as well as how to know when to expand your services.
We are thrilled that Heather will be leading two sessions this year. The first session she leads will take place on Friday, all about Expanding your Design Services while Staying True to your Aesthetic.
This session is one we are looking forward to for two main reasons. First of all, a lot of times when we expand our services or our offerings in our business, it's easy to add one thing here, one thing there, and before you know it, you can have a business that offers services or sells products that is a bit, well, all over the place. If you're offering items that are just there because you think people will like them, or because people have asked you to create them, especially if they're in a lot of different styles, then your messaging can be a bit challenging to convey, and people will have a hard time learning who you are and what your business offers. When it is time to expand your services and offerings, this session will help you to determine when to take each step, so that you can maintain consistency in your business and offer the items that are well-defined and continue to draw people in to your business with a similar aesthetic all across the board.
In this session, you will learn how to tell if it is the right time to expand your services for your business. We will cover how to determine what type of service to expand into, as well as deciding on an expected budget and timeline for expanding. You will learn how to make sure your brand, voice, and design aesthetic carry over to this new endeavor to maintain a cohesive business. We will walk through the process on how to implement a multi-faceted business in your social media and on your website, as well as how to prepare for launching and marketing your new service.
When I asked Heather why she was excited to teach this session, she said "I'm excited to share how I expanded my business services and the takeaways that I learned while doing it. It's a scary time, but it is also equally exciting and rewarding. I can't wait to walk you through how I determined when and what to expand to and how it worked for me and my business (and also what didn't work for me!)."
The second session that Heather will be leading will be something that every single person who is an entrepreneur can benefit from, Creating Workflows for your Business and Clients.
When you're working with your clients, you always want to know what comes next. This not only enables you to communicate more clearly with your clients about what comes next, but if you're hiring employees or working with a VA, they have a step by step outline to follow. You know what is due when, so there isn't anything that is forgotten, and especially if you're juggling a lot of clients, things won't slip through the cracks. Not only does having workflows help you to be more consistent in your business, it makes you a lot more organized as well!
During this session, you will learn how to discover your business and client workflow to help streamline your process with each and every client. As well as how to create your outline for your intake forms, questionnaires, info PDFs, packets, proofing forms and much more! You will learn the benefits of having a system that helps you automate and control every aspect of your business transaction from start to finish; and in turn how it helps to create an amazing client experience. You will also learn the ins and outs of some of the industries top CRM (Client Relationship Management) Systems to help determine which one is right for you and your business. And, you will learn how it can help you easily manage your on-boarding, duration, and post-project workflows.
When I asked Heather why she was excited to teach this session, she shared "I am so excited to share what has worked and what has not worked in my business workflows and systems over the last 8 years. I can't wait to share how to expedite your workflows and process while remaining true to your business mission and goals and helping to create an amazing client experience. I will show you in-depth details of my workflow and how I use my CRM system to help streamline my workflow, allowing me to focus on my clients and generating the ideal client and revenue that I desire."
Both of these sessions are ones that we are incredibly excited about, and know they are going to be amazing for everyone who attends them. To find out even more about Heather, continue reading below!
How long have you been a business owner, and what do you love the most about being an entrepreneur?
I have been in business 8 years and absolutely love the fact that I get to create my own schedule every day and that I actually look forward to getting up and working every morning! I actually have to make myself take breaks and stop working!
Why do you love what you do?
I help couples create beautiful, branded weddings through custom wedding invitations and stationery. We work on every element down to the smallest detail to make sure that it truly reflects the couple on their big day. It helps take the stress out of planning knowing that we can handle all of their stationery and design needs in one spot! Couples who come to me truly love and value quality stationery and know that it sets the tone for their big day when their guest receive it.
If you could offer any advice to a Creative Entrepreneur, wherever they may be in their journey, what would it be?
It's ok to make mistakes, that's how you learn and grow. Those mistakes help to shape and mold your business over the years and teach you better ways to run your business. Also, never compare your chapter one to someone else's chapter 20, you don't know how long it took them to get there or what speed bumps they hit along the way.
Registration is currently open for our Creative Founders Conference, taking place on the beautiful beaches of Pensacola, Florida, this October. Will you be joining us? For all of the details, visit our Conference Details page here!
We’ll see you back here soon when we share more details about our next speaker!
