Day Two of our Fall 2018 Conference | A Week in Review

It’s one of our favorite weeks of the year for our blog! Every year when we do our Conference Recap week, it always is a favorite for everyone. We are so thrilled to be continuing with Day Two for our 2018 Fall Conference Review today, with a new post shared each day.
If you want to start at the beginning, Day One is right here!
Day Two was our first full day at the house. We started early in the morning with a delicious breakfast including biscuits and muffins, quiche, juice and fresh fruit to start the day off right. This was also the first day of our sessions, and we were so thrilled to have Erin Kendrick, Heather O’Brien, Valerie McKeehan, Ashley Cochrane, and Emily Ley share insight and teach sessions today. With a dinner out to Red Fish Blue Fish along with time spent enjoying conversation all day long, the entire day was an incredible one.

After setting the room up, we displayed the day’s giveaway items, which were from so many of our previous alums! Whether it was a business book (from our Amazon shop here!) or a gift set, every giveaway collection was created with a purpose. A note-writing set, a celebration set, even a gift-giving set, each one was curated carefully to provide a different collection of items. We are always so interested to see what people will choose!
This year, we also started to differentiate our shirts, so that every time you come to one of our in-person events, you’ll receive a different kind of apparel. This year, we gifted both slate and blue shirts, and we love knowing that each time you return, you’ll have something new waiting for you!
Erin Kendrick started us off with her first session and focused in on finding your voice as a maker, artist, or a designer.
She walked the attendees through how to find your brand, your voice, and your tone, while staying true to who you are as an individual, finding the voice that is inside of your soul and encouraging you to be the person you were made to be.
Following our first main session, we then split up into two breakout sessions. Heather O’Brien led a session about learning how to expand your services while staying true to your design aesthetic, while Erin led a second session on how working backwards will help you to excel at your creativity. All three of these sessions were packed with actionable content and were a great beginning to the day.
After our morning sessions, it was time for lunch! With breathtaking views and time built into the middle of the day for time to go down to the beach if you’d like to, each person was able to relax a bit and get to know their fellow attendees outside of the main session settings.
After lunch, it was back up to the third floor for our afternoon sessions! We shared about a few of our sponsors and then went right into our second main session led by Ashley Cochrane, specifically about how to work with a photographer for custom product photography.
Following Ashley’s session and after a short break, we went into our afternoon breakouts led by Valerie McKeehan and Heather O’Brien. Valerie led a session about employees and hiring help, while Heather taught about creating workflows for your business and clients with a walkthrough of how to use Dubsado as well.
After our afternoon sessions, we headed out to one of our favorite local spots for dinner, Red Fish Blue Fish! This was such a fun evening - with live music playing and being right next to the water, it was exactly what we needed to relax and unwind, and fun was had by all.
Sarah of The Redheaded Camel (shown below, as she was also one of our returning attendees!) handpainted name cards for everyone in her signature style and Kristin designed the menus, working with Kelly from Hello World Paper Co. to develop the laser-cut menus, which all turned out beautifully! We had a limobus pick up the attendees and bring them to the restaurant and I can only imagine how much fun that ride was in itself!
We also knew that it was a couple of our attendees birthdays during the time they’d be with us … they didn’t know we knew, which made their birthday surprise dessert (complete with a song sung by the staff!) even sweeter.
After dinner, the attendees were surprised with one more guest … Emily Ley had just moved back to Pensacola, and we were able to organize a surprise visit where she could come and join us for an evening! Seeing the reaction of our attendees when she was there to meet them all made it all worthwhile, and I do believe will forever be one of the most fun surprises we’ve ever gotten to do.
We had a relaxed Q+A session where she shared some things she had learned in her years of entrepreneurship, new things that were coming to Simplified, and overall, encouraged everyone directly from her heart to theirs.
At the end of another amazing day, everyone went to sleep soundly, with one more full day ahead of us. Day Three includes sessions led by Amy Kinslow, Heather Jordan, Valerie McKeehan, and Kristin Wilson, with a special evening we were already looking forward to … our loved Celebration Dinner. We will see you right back here on the blog tomorrow for Day Three!
