Alumni Spotlight: Amanda Cowgill on Finding Balance and Giving Back
Amanda Cowgill on finding balance, giving back, who inspires her, and her journey since taking the SCF Course
Today we are catching up with SCF Course Alum Amanda Cowgill of Amanda Cowgill Designs. Read on to find out what she's been up to!
Why did you start your business? Tell us your story.
I taught and coached at a school for seven years and loved every minute of it. As a teacher, I loved being organized and planning out my day to make the most of my time. Once I became a mom, no matter how I structured my day I never felt like I had enough time. I decided to leave my teaching job and find a better life/work balance by starting a business that makes products that inspire and help women live intentionally so they can make time for the most important things in life. The core of my business is detailed notepads to help women focus on their priorities and take charge of how they use their time.
Where are you now? What has your journey since the SCF course (formerly Creatives Academy) looked like?
I have created two new lines of products since the SCF Course and I am currently working on new products that will debut in the Fall of 2016.
Who has inspired you the most from the the SCF (formerly Stationery Academy) community?
There have been many special SCF alums that I admire, but
is my favorite to follow because of her authenticity and her mission to inspire Truth in the everyday life of women. Ashlee has a beautiful blog and instagram feed that encourages women with the gospel and finding beauty everywhere in life. She is branding expert and also sells products that she creates.
What has been the highlight of your year?
The highlight of 2016 has been a special collaboration that my company had with
, a non-profit organization that gives disadvantaged children a memorable birthday celebration in a safe and fun environment. This organization believes that all children deserve to experience joy and be given the opportunity to celebrate their special day, no matter their circumstances. I created a birthday card that is sold in my shop and 100 percent of the proceeds go to Celebrate RVA.
Do you have a favorite memory from the course? How has the SCF Course (formerly Creatives Academy) continued to shape your path?
The SCF Course is such a special experience because of the knowledge that can be gained from the other attendees from different fields who are at different points on their creative journey. The online community that I have through the SCF Course is a wealth of knowledge and support that is a constant encouragement to me as a creative business owner.
What’s in your future?
All of my products were originally designed to fit a need I personally had and as my season of life changes I know my products will also evolve and change. As my children get a little bit older, I am finding myself out of the house more and in need of notepads and that travel easily. I am hoping one day to create an all encompassing planner that would organize all of my personal and family needs and still fit in my purse!
