Get Confident About Your Money
We're introducing our Creative Founders conference speakers and today, Janet LeBlanc of Paper and Spark is sharing more about herself and her journey! ⠀
Hi y’all! I’m Janet, and I’m so thrilled to be speaking about Your Money at next year’s Creative Founders Conference! I’m a mama, serial-entrepreneur, spreadsheet nerd, and CPA living in Houston. My journey as a creative founder has been long and winding but I wouldn’t have it any other way! I started out crafting jewelry as a creative outlet back in 2011, and then opened my current stationery biz Paper and Spark in 2014 shortly after my daughter was born. In 2015, after finishing the Creative Founders Course hosted by Jennifer Faught, I finally took my accounting expertise to the next level by designing financial spreadsheets and digital tools especially for other creative bosses.
My passion is to help creative business owners feel more confident and empowered when it comes to your money. I’ve found that makers and designers tend to avoid the financial side of things, due to a variety of reasons (overwhelm, busyness, or you’re just plain confused about where to start!). My goal with my brand Paper and Spark is to simplify and educate. I create tools that simplify and automate the accounting process (let’s make life easier for you!), like the Etsy Seller Spreadsheet or my cost of goods sold tracker. I also strive to break down important tax and financial topics in plain English so you can understand what you’re responsible for as an entrepreneur. Through this work, I’ve gotten to connect with so many amazing creative entrepreneurs and learn what issues they struggle with the most.⠀ ⠀⠀
I’m so excited to be speaking about Your Money at the 2017 Creative Founders Conference. My presentation will focus on four core areas of your finances: bookkeeping, budgeting, taxes, and profitability. And let’s be real – I am not about fluff ladies! I am going to give you concrete specifics and actionable steps on how to deal with your money. It’s going to be the “real stuff” and not just the feel good “inspirational stuff”. Not sure what taxes your business is responsible for, when to pay them, or how to fill out those forms? We’ll talk about that. Not sure what you need to be recording in your financial records, how often, or how to set up the best system? We’ll talk about that. Can’t figure out which segment of your business to invest more in, and what to cut? We’ll talk about that too!⠀
My Paper and Spark spreadsheets are known in the maker community as exceptionally helpful tools for dealing with bookkeeping, pricing, costing, and more. Every attendee at the Creative Founders Conference will get a specially crafted bundle of Paper and Spark spreadsheets, worksheets, and resources as part of the Your Money presentation. That includes pricing formulas, budgeting worksheets, checklists for tax time, and more. And don’t worry – I know we all like to design (and look at) pretty things, so I make sure to make my spreadsheets pretty (as pretty as a spreadsheet can be at least!).
I hope to see you in March at the conference! As I prep to make the most useful, purposeful, and (hopefully) FUN presentation on Your Money, I’d love to hear from you – what do you create? What do you want to know when it comes to your biz finances? What do you struggle the most with when it comes to your money? Let me know here or over at Paper and Spark, and I’ll do my best to work your questions into my presentation! ⠀ ⠀ PS – I’m also going to be hosting a special breakout session on inventory and cost of goods sold, especially for makers. So excited to demystify this topic for some talented creative founders!
